The Navigator GPS system is simple to set-up for use, reliable, easy to maintain, and lasts for many years.

Easy Set-Up for Use

Please read the instruction manual for complete instructions before use. The images show the front and rear of the Navigator GPS control unit. The text from the manual gives the simple steps to set the controls on the Navigator GPS Control Unit and the Standard Lymphatic Mapping Probe for a sentinel node procedure.

Navigator Service Sheet and Customer Packing List

In the rare event that service is required, a customer in the United States contacts their Navigator representative. During this process, the attached customer service sheet is sometimes of use.

Optional Item.  Exempt cobalt-57 source holder

For demonstrations purposes, RMD manufactures a check source holder that may be used to store an exempt quantity of a 57cobalt radiation source.  The check source holder is RMD order code E297050. and is available from RMD Instruments, LLC.   This source hold is manufactured and sold by RMD Instruments, LLC.

Optional Item.  Exempt cobalt-57 source

The Navigator system is frequently used to detect the isotope of 99mTechnetium, which emits gamma photons of 140 keV of energy.

Some customers prefer to possess an exempt radioactive source so that they may demonstrate the system performance to an observer.  The isotope of 57cobalt emits gamma radiation at a principal energy line of 122 keV.  An exempt quantity of a cobalt-57 isotope may be used for demonstrating system performance.  The specifications for such are source are as follows:

                                    57Cobalt Check Source

                        specification                              value
                        Isotope                                      57Co (cobalt 57)
                        Activity                                      25 µCi  (925 kBq)
                        Half-life                                      271.8 days
                        Form                                         solid.  sealed source
                        Shape                                       cylindrical
Dimensions                               1.0 inch (2.54 cm) diameter,
                                                                        0.25 inch (0.64 cm ) thick
                        Manufacturer                             Various.

At the present time, RMD does not manufacture or distribute such as source.  Such a source may be purchased from various radioisotope manufacturers located in the United States.

When purchasing a check source, a distinction between a "nominal activity" check source and a "calibrated" check source may help minimize your expenditure. A "Calibrated" source has an activity that is known to a precise (or calibrated) value at an identified point in time. If the activity is less well known, the source is said to have a "nominal" value. The price of a check source is generally less if one purchases a "nominal" activity source. For this application, a check source with a "nominal" activity is sufficient.

Note:  Exempt Quantity. In the United States and in some conditions, the above 57Co check source is an exempt from federal regulations that require an individual to possess a radiation source license.  quantity source based on its activity.  The possession, use, and transfer of this source is regulated by the applicable State's regulations.

Note:  Storage. A check source must be stored in a safe place when not in use.  The useful life of the 57Co CHECK SOURCE is less than or equal to approximately five half-lives.  An inactive source should be returned to the source manufacturer for disposal, or disposed in accordance with all applicable State and Federal Regulations.

For reference:
· A becquerrel (abbreviated 1 Bq) is defined as 1 disintegration per second.
· A curie (abbreviated 1 Ci) is defined as 3.7 x 1010 disintegrations per second.
· A half-life is period of time during which the activity of an isotope decays to
one-half the initial amount.

Optional Item.  Navigator Cart

In the United States, a cart may be available from RMD's local representatives.  The cart may be used to store the Navigator GPS system when the system is not in use.  This cart is not manufactured by RMD Instruments, LLC.  Please contact your local Navigator representative for the availability of this cart.

Optional Item.  Probe Drapes

In the United States, a probe is frequently used inside a sterile probe drape.  RMD Instruments, LLC, does not manufacture or sell sterile probe drapes.  Please contact your local representative for the available of sterile probe drapes.
